WebP Achieves Cross-Browser Support with Release of Safari 14

News

Safari 14 beta was launched during Apple's WWDC20, and now supports the WebP image format. With this, WebP is now supported in all major browsers — Chrome, Edge, Firefox & Safari.

Having achieved cross-browser support, future of WebP looks even more brighter. WebP is already known to have smaller file sizes as compared to JPEG & PNG counterparts. Websites have been moving towards adopting WebP to increase their page load speed.

WebP image format has been created by Google.
